A pickleball tournament benefiting Friends of the Children Austin
Every spring, Austin’s business and philanthropic community comes together for a day of fun, friendly pickleball competition in support of Friends Austin. Since its launch in 2023, The Big Pickle has raised more than $300,000 to support Friends Austin’s long-term professional mentoring program. Whether you’re a seasoned player or picking up a paddle for the first time, The Big Pickle is your chance to play with purpose and help ensure every child in our program has a professional mentor by their side for 12+ years, no matter what.
Why We Play
Every registration, sponsorship, and donation supports Friends of the Children Austin.
We pair children facing the greatest obstacles with full-time, salaried professional mentors we call Friends. Unlike traditional mentoring programs, we make a commitment that lasts from kindergarten through high school graduation—12+ years, no matter what. Research has shown that these consistent, long-term relationships can change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Do I need pickleball experience?
Not at all! The Big Pickle welcomes everyone from first-time players to seasoned competitors. With divisions for multiple skill levels, there’s a place on the court for everyone.

Can I attend without playing?
Absolutely! Spectator tickets include access to the food, drinks, entertainment, and other event fun, no pickleball required.

What should I wear?
Comfortable athletic clothing and court shoes are recommended. We also encourage you to show your team spirit: coordinated outfits are welcome, and our team costume contest has become one of the day’s favorite traditions.

Where is The Big Pickle held?
The Big Pickle takes place at The Picklr Austin West, a premier indoor pickleball facility. Playing indoors means the tournament can continue rain or shine while providing a comfortable experience for players and spectators alike.
