Silvana was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. As a proud daughter of immigrant parents from El Salvador, they instilled in her hard work and determination. Pursuing a higher education was important for her because her achievements were their achievements. She moved to Austin in 2012 to pursue her bachelors at The University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with her BA in Iberian and Latin American Languages and Cultures. During her undergraduate years, Silvana joined Sigma Delta Lambda Sorority, Inc. where she helped establish a mentoring program, Doves Achieving Success. She also had the opportunity to work alongside different programs such as the Boys and Girls Club and APIE. After college she served as an AmeriCorps member for two years with Advise TX. During her time, she served as a high school college adviser to guide low-income and first-generation students to college. Silvana’s journey has now lead her to Friends of the Children, where she has been a Friend for four years and continues to inspire and empower the next generation of youth.
