Staff: Cathyrn Johnson

Cathyrn is a native Austinite. She attended Austin ISD schools and graduated from LBJ LASA High School. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Prairie View A&M University. GO PANTHERS!

For fifteen years, she worked in Austin ISD as a Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and Special Education teacher. She co-developed the Mini B.O.S.S. (Black Outstanding Strong Students) Program to address belonging, leadership, cultural pride, and positive identity development. As the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Facilitator in Austin ISD, she worked to set SEL goals for the campus, implemented diversity practices campus wide, and designed culturally responsive and inclusive professional learning trainings.

Cathyrn is committed to providing a safe environment where youth are given opportunities, access to resources, and receive a quality education. It is her goal and intention to create a relationship and deep connection with each youth she works with. She firmly believes that every youth can graduate and achieve their dreams. As a Friends of the Children mentor, she wants to provide guidance to the next generation to help end the predictability of success based on circumstances.

In her free time, she enjoys bowling, skating, reading, and trying new things. She is the youngest sibling of four and has one niece. She loves spending time with her family.
