Staff: Abbey Johnson

Prior to joining Friends Austin, Abbey spent her time as a full-time nanny, supporting youth through several developmental milestones, engaging with each child’s creative interests, and from time to time, performing the ever-evolving character “Ursula” from The Little Mermaid.

In 2020, Abbey earned her MA in Nonprofit Management with the University of Houston-Downtown. Previously working with Friends Austin in 2018 as a volunteer, and then again in 2020 as an intern, Abbey has had the opportunity to learn from multiple departments, from Finance, Operations, Programming, to Development. Volunteering with the organizations Rebuild Joplin and Head Start as an undergraduate student, Abbey quickly realized her passion for working in the social sector, and more specifically, her passion for youth development. As the People and Operations Coordinator for Friends Austin, Abbey is thrilled to be in the position where she can continue honing her skills and supporting the Friends Austin mission.

From Marlin, Texas, Abbey is the oldest of 7, one sibling being her twin sister. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family and doing outdoor adventures and sports with her long-time boyfriend, Felix, and her sweet lab, Lucy.
