Mel is an attorney with Cantu Harden Montoya LLP in Austin, Texas with a practice specializing in public finance. Prior to joining the firm, Mel served as a legal advocate for children and parents involved with child protective services where she first learned about the work of Friends of the Children. Mel is passionate about public education and helping children but especially inspiring young girls to become confident, educated and independent women. She is excited to continue working with the Friends of the Children Board this year and grow its footprint in Austin. Mel earned a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. She also earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance/Management) from Trinity University.
In her spare time, Mel enjoys running with Gilbert’s Gazelles, traveling, and spending time with friends, family and her fur-baby, Cosmo.
